decent jobs decent lives

Dumelang Betsho!

This is our manifesto for the upcoming General Election. It is our pledge and commitment to the people of Botswana, and the basis of our request to them to trust us with the responsibility of government. It is also a framework of accountability by which Batswana should hold us accountable.

This is the reason our priority targets are bold and SMART. They are very Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound.

Our signature promises to Batswana are;

 • 100 000 Jobs in 12 months

 • A Living Wage of P3000

• Old Age Pension of P1500

• FREE Sanitary Pads

 • Tablets for Learners

 • Tertiary Education Student Allowance of P2500

 • Reopening of BCL Mine

These are important commitments, but they are only the frontline indicators of the society we desire, the economy we will deliver, and our development ethos.

We embrace, in this manifesto, our nation’s timeless aspirational goal of “Prosperity for All”. Thus, our manifesto is about building a society and an economy in which all, regardless of the circumstances of their birth, have a decent shot at a life of fulfilment.

We relate this vision – Prosperity for All - to the greatest crisis of our time, which is lack of jobs, hence the theme “Decent Jobs, Decent Lives”.

Our manifesto is definitively about profound transformation of the economy and lives. The trajectory the economy is on leads towards more joblessness, poverty and exclusion for the majority. The path we propose is that of an economy that works for all. That requires effective delivery on three strategic imperatives for human development, i.e., empowerment, opportunity and human security

Transform the Economy to Create Jobs

The economy has been growing on average at 3.8% per annum over  the ten years to 2017, which is well below the target necessary to  address the triple crises of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

The Health care system in Botswana is failing. Although we  have a decent spread of health infrastructure across the  country, health facilities are understaffed. They do not have  requisite equipment and medical supplies.

Corruption, nepotism and patronage are endemic in the public sector. They have a debilitating effect on efficiency and the delivery of services. These problems are traceable to acute deficiencies in leadership and  management, and weak systems

Cities, towns and villages lack basic sports and

Botswana is ill-prepared for the Fourth Industrial Revolution  (4IR). It has no 4IR strategy. Its human resource development  systems are failing. It has limited internet connectivity. Data  costs are high.

Old age pension

The old age pension is a paltry P530 per month, which sadly denies our senior citizens dignity. We will increase the old age pension to P1500 per month to help seniors afford the basics for subsistence. After all many of them are responsible for raising their grandchildren.
