This is our manifesto for the upcoming General Election. It is our pledge and commitment to the people of Botswana, and the basis of our request to them to trust us with the responsibility of government. It is also a framework of accountability by which Batswana should hold us accountable.
This is the reason our priority targets are bold and SMART. They are very Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound.
Our signature promises to Batswana are;
• 100 000 Jobs in 12 months
• A Living Wage of P3000
• Old Age Pension of P1500
• FREE Sanitary Pads
• Tablets for Learners
• Tertiary Education Student Allowance of P2500
• Reopening of BCL Mine
These are important commitments, but they are only the frontline indicators of the society we desire, the economy we will deliver, and our development ethos.
We embrace, in this manifesto, our nation’s timeless aspirational goal of “Prosperity for All”. Thus, our manifesto is about building a society and an economy in which all, regardless of the circumstances of their birth, have a decent shot at a life of fulfilment.
We relate this vision – Prosperity for All - to the greatest crisis of our time, which is lack of jobs, hence the theme “Decent Jobs, Decent Lives”.
Our manifesto is definitively about profound transformation of the economy and lives. The trajectory the economy is on leads towards more joblessness, poverty and exclusion for the majority. The path we propose is that of an economy that works for all. That requires effective delivery on three strategic imperatives for human development, i.e., empowerment, opportunity and human security
The economy has been growing on average at 3.8% per annum over the ten years to 2017, which is well below the target necessary to address the triple crises of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
The Health care system in Botswana is failing. Although we have a decent spread of health infrastructure across the country, health facilities are understaffed. They do not have requisite equipment and medical supplies.
Corruption, nepotism and patronage are endemic in the public sector. They have a debilitating effect on efficiency and the delivery of services. These problems are traceable to acute deficiencies in leadership and management, and weak systems
The UDC will raise productivity in agriculture and transform low productivity, unpaid self-employment and family labor into higher productivity paid employment.
Cities, towns and villages lack basic sports and
recreation facilities. Artists struggle to get recognition and to commercialize their craft. Private sector funding for sport is negligible
compared to the norm in other countries.
Botswana is ill-prepared for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). It has no 4IR strategy. Its human resource development systems are failing. It has limited internet connectivity. Data costs are high.
Nations prosper or fail on account of how they are led and governed. The experience of successful nations teaches us that for a nation to develop and prosper, it must have two things at a minimum. One is ethical, competent, transparent
The political philosophy of the Umbrella for Democratic Change rests on human rights and developmental approaches to issues of Labor and Employment. We place the wellbeing of workers at the center of development
The UDC will affirm access to quality relevant education as a fundamental human right for all citizens and commit the state, as a duty bearer, to the fulfilment of this right for every child and every citizen.
All citizens should have access to quality health services they need without risk of financial ruin or impoverishment. Working towards universal health coverage is a powerful mechanism
Earlier this week, Presidential Candidate Duma Gideon Boko made an appearance on South Africa's News Link
During an interview with SABC news in South Africa, Presidential Candidate Duma Gideon Boko expressed concerns that opposition parties are not being allowed access to voters roll & Voter registration ahead of the upcoming elections. Attempts to get cooperation from the electoral commission has not be successful. Botswana's General Elections are expected to take place during the final week of October.SABC news - July 17th 2024.

The UDC will affirm access to quality relevant education as a fundamental human right for all citizens and commit the state, as a duty bearer, to the fulfilment of this right for every child and every citizen. Consistent with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, we will “…ensure inclusive and equitable quality education
and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
Old age pension
The old age pension is a paltry P530 per month, which sadly denies our senior citizens dignity. We will increase the old age pension to P1500 per month to help seniors afford the basics for subsistence. After all many of them are responsible for raising their grandchildren.
Our campaign is going to be powered by people like you. Tell us you’re on board today. Umbrella for democratic change
